Before and After urine saturated area rug.
It all begins with an idea.
Good morning and happy Friday! 🌞 We’ve had a successful and productive week, and we hope yours has been the same!
Today, I want to share an impressive before-and-after of an area rug that came to us saturated with dog urine. I was initially skeptical when our technician brought it in, but after dedicating some time to it yesterday, I’m amazed by the results!
Here’s how we tackled this one:
We flushed the rug by laying it flat, flooding it with water, and using a specialized tool connected to a hose to go over the affected area until no more yellow was visible in the water. We then flipped the rug and used our commercial-grade pressure washer to rinse the back, followed by a second rinse on the top for thoroughness.
After that, the rug was soaked in a bath with a nice smelling deodorizing solution for a few hours, ensuring any remaining urine was eliminated. Once it had time to dwell, we ran the rug through our cleaning machine, scrubbing both sides multiple times with a solvent-boosted pre-spray and cleaning solution. It was then rinsed in our centrifuge, spun almost dry, and finished with an enzyme deodorizer spray before hanging to complete the drying process.
If your pet has had accidents on your rugs, bring them in or give us a call. We’ll let you know what we can do to help. Wishing you a fantastic weekend ahead!

Quick tips to extend the lifespan of your carpets and area rugs.
It all begins with an idea.
Good morning! Here are some quick tips to keep your carpets and area rugs in good shape and extend their lifespan!
Caring for Your Carpets & Area Rugs: Top Tips
Vacuum Regularly: Keep carpets and rugs looking fresh by vacuuming high-traffic areas twice a week. This helps prevent dirt from settling into the fibers.
Rotate Rugs: Rotate your area rugs every 6 months to ensure even wear and avoid fading in high-traffic spots.
Blot Spills Quickly: For spills, blot (don’t rub!) with a clean cloth to prevent stains from setting. Always work from the outside in to avoid spreading.
Use Rug Pads: Protect both your rugs and floors with quality rug pads. They prevent slipping, add cushioning, and reduce wear and tear.
Deep Clean Annually: Schedule a professional deep cleaning at least once a year to remove deeply embedded dirt and allergens. This helps maintain a healthier home and keeps your carpets and rugs in top shape.
Minimize Sun Exposure: Keep carpets and rugs out of direct sunlight to prevent fading. Use curtains or blinds to block harmful UV rays.
Keep Dirt at the Door: Use doormats at all entrances and encourage removing shoes indoors to reduce dirt on your carpets and rugs.

Carpet rippling after cleaning? Fear not!
It all begins with an idea.
Good morning! Here’s an explanation of why carpets sometimes ripple after cleaning. I remember the first time it happened to me—I was worried! But it turns out it’s quite common and usually temporary.
Why Do Carpets Ripple After Cleaning?
If you’ve noticed ripples or waves in your wall-to-wall carpet after cleaning, don’t be alarmed. This often happens and typically resolves on its own.
Here’s Why:
Moisture Absorption: The carpet absorbs moisture during cleaning, causing the backing and fibers to expand slightly, which can lead to temporary rippling.
Loose Installation: If the carpet wasn’t tightly installed, cleaning can highlight this issue. High-traffic areas are especially prone to rippling.
Temperature & Humidity: As the carpet dries and moisture evaporates, it usually returns to its original shape. Drying times can vary depending on temperature and humidity.
What to Do:
Don’t Panic: In most cases, ripples will disappear within 24-48 hours as the carpet dries.
Regular Maintenance: Ensure your carpet is properly installed and maintained to minimize rippling.
If you’re concerned about rippling after your carpet has been cleaned, feel free to contact us. We’re here to help and ensure your carpets stay in top shape!

Bathtub weekend and reminiscing
It all begins with an idea.
Hello everyone!
This upcoming weekend marks one of the most memorable events we have here in Nanaimo every summer—it's Bath Tub Weekend! Every year, on the last weekend of July, we gather for the exciting bathtub races in Departure Bay. It's a fantastic event that brings joy to people of all ages!
We want to give a big shoutout to the participants who build and race these incredible bathtub boats. It’s quite the event and definitely a great workout! This tradition brings back fond memories for us at Classic Care, as we used to have our own bathtub boat, and Lorne himself used to race it!
In honor of this fun-filled weekend, we wanted to reminisce and show our appreciation for everyone involved in making this event happen. Attached are some nostalgic photos of our Classic Care bathtub boat and Lorne in action.
Good luck to all the racers! Get out there this weekend, show your support, and let’s have some fun!
Let’s take another trip down memory lane
It all begins with an idea.
Good morning! As we continue celebrating 30 years of Classic Care, let's take another trip down memory lane.
Here’s a glimpse of one of our earlier shops on Terminal Avenue, where our iconic red trucks and our old mascot, 'Puddles,' were part of the scenery. The basement space was all we had back then. Despite the limited room, our dedicated team managed to clean blinds and area rugs efficiently.
As we expanded, we moved to our shop on Mostar Road, where we could accommodate more advanced equipment. This is where Lorne installed racks for area rug cleaning and introduced the Esporta machine. We even had a machine similar to our current truck mounts installed in the shop to clean area rugs with.
Our journey brought us to our current location at 1920 Northfield Rd., where we upgraded to even better equipment to provide top-notch cleaning for your rugs. Our growth over the years has allowed us to refine our focus and improve our services continuously.
Thank you for being a part of our journey. Here’s to many more years of exceptional service!

More from our 30 years!
It all begins with an idea.
Good morning! As we continue celebrating our 30th anniversary this week, Lorne uncovered some nostalgic treasures—old business cards and another newspaper clipping from our early days. While I can't pinpoint the exact years for the blue business card, I vividly remember the red and white one from when I first started with Classic Care.
Do you remember when we had the Esporta machine? It filled the shop with such a pleasant scent! We used it to clean sports gear, firefighter uniforms, and more. We even tackled construction cleans during that time. Although we enjoyed offering these diverse services, we eventually decided to focus our expertise on what we do best: caring for your beloved area rugs, blinds, wall-to-wall carpets, tile and grout, and upholstery.
Join us in reminiscing about our journey and bring in your items for top-notch cleaning. Here’s to many more years of exceptional service!

30 Years of Classic Care: Memories and Milestones
It all begins with an idea.
As we continue celebrating our 30th anniversary, we’re excited to share another memorable moment from our history. This time, we're taking you back to the winter of 1996. Does anyone remember the blizzard in Nanaimo that year? It was quite the event!
A Blizzard and a Heroic Rescue:
After the holidays in 1996, the staff at the local chamber office returned to a shocking sight – soaking wet floors and anything that touched the floor was drenched. The blizzard had caused quite a mess. Lorne and his brother Ian sprang into action to save the day!
Armed with their equipment, they quickly mopped up and extracted all the water. To ensure no lasting damage, they set up dehumidifiers and fans, working tirelessly until the problem was completely resolved. Their efforts were a resounding success, and the chamber office was back to normal in no time.
A Personal Touch:
While I wasn't in Nanaimo at the time, I was living in Quebec and experienced a severe ice storm that year. It’s incredible how weather can impact us all in different ways, and how community spirit and dedication can make all the difference.

30 Years of Classic Care: A Journey Through the Years
It all begins with an idea.
Continuing our 30th-anniversary celebration, we're diving into the archives! Lorne pulled out some treasured newspaper clippings from our early days, showcasing significant milestones and our growth over the years.
Blast from the Past:
First Picture: Lorne with his first truck mount carpet cleaning truck! This clipping is from around Christmas time in 1997, capturing Lorne's efforts to help out the community.
Second Picture: A clipping from the year 2000, marking the grand opening of Lorne's first shop! In those days, not only did we clean carpets, but we also sold area rugs.
Fast forward 24 years, and while we may not sell area rugs anymore, our expertise in cleaning them has only gotten better. With state-of-the-art equipment and a dedicated team, we ensure your rugs get the best care possible.

Safely storing your area rugs!
It all begins with an idea.
Good morning! Let's talk rug storage.
Keeping your area rugs clean and well-preserved is essential, especially when storing them. Proper storage prevents damage and extends its lifespan.
Clean Thoroughly: Vacuum and have it professionally cleaned to remove dirt, dust and spills. The professional wash will also get rid of the dry dirt that is in the foundation.
Avoid Folding: Always roll your rug to prevent creases and damage. For smaller rugs, fold gently without sharp creases.
Vertical Storage: Store rugs standing up to maintain their shape. Some rugs you will not be able to do this with, such as handwoven wool or silk rugs. In this case you can lay them down.
Avoid Plastic Wrap: Use breathable fabric like cotton or muslin to wrap the rug, allowing air circulation and preventing mold. If using plastic, make sure there are some holes in it to help with air circulation.
Inspect Regularly: Unroll monthly to check for moisture, mold, or pests. Vacuum the area to keep it clean.
Protect from Insects: Use moth and insect repellents if storing in basements, attics, or garages. If you get your natural fiber rug cleaned with us, included in our process is a repellant for moths that we treat the rug with after it is washed.
Cool, Dry Environment: Store rugs off the ground in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heavy items.

The important machines we use day to day.
It all begins with an idea.
Good morning! Today, we’re excited to share some of the state-of-the-art equipment we use to care for your beloved area rugs and blinds at Classic Care.
First, our Ultrasonic Blind Cleaning Machine has been a game-changer. We've used these ultrasonic blind cleaning machines for over 20 years, and it never ceases to amaze us with its results. Even tough nicotine stains don’t stand a chance. It works like an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner, using sound vibrations to release dirt, grease, and nicotine. Some blinds may need a bit of elbow grease after washing, but the results are always impressive.
Next, our Automated Area Rug Cleaning Machine is the only one of its kind on the island! It makes our work more thorough and efficient and is fun to use. For rugs needing extra attention, we have a commercial pressure washer to help clean fringes and perfect for prepping rugs before they go through the automated machine.
We also use an orbital scrubber for deep cleaning after pre-spraying and rug rakes for grooming. Lastly, our Badger is essential for releasing dry dirt from the rug’s foundation.
These tools help us deliver the best care for your rugs and blinds and are very important in our day to day activities. Stay tuned for more insights into our cleaning process!

Why we don’t clean area rugs in homes.
It all begins with an idea.
Good morning!
At Classic Care, we prioritize the proper care of your area rugs, which is why we don't clean them in homes or with wall-to-wall carpet cleaning equipment. Here's why:
1. Construction Differences:
Wall-to-Wall Carpets: Have a plastic backing suitable for top vacuuming.
Area Rugs: Feature tightly woven foundations that trap dirt, requiring specialized dusting equipment like our badger, which isn't usable in homes.
2. Dirt Removal:
Carpet cleaning tools clean surface fibers, but area rugs need deep cleaning to remove embedded dirt. Improper cleaning mixes dirt with water and cleaning agents, forming a plaster-like substance that damages fibers.
3. Heat Sensitivity:
High heat from carpet cleaners can damage the fibers and dyes of area rugs, especially wool.
4. Drying Time:
Quick drying prevents mold and mildew. Our facilities ensure rapid drying with centrifuges and hanging racks with fans.
5. Chemical Use:
Cleaning chemistry for nylon carpets differs from what's safe for natural fiber rugs. Using the wrong products can harm your rugs.
6. Safety and Cleanliness:
Cleaning area rugs in place can damage your flooring and carpet. Our specialized equipment and controlled environment ensure safe, thorough cleaning.
Bring your area rugs to Classic Care for professional and safe cleaning. #ArearugcleaningNanaimo #ArearugcleaningLadysmith #ArearugcleaningParksville #ArearugcleaningQualicumbeach #ArearugcleaningNanooseBay
Protector for your area rugs, carpets and textiles
It all begins with an idea.
Good morning, friends! Let's have a chat about protector for your carpets, area rugs, and textiles. You see, protector isn't just a post-cleaning add-on – it's your secret weapon against stains and spills.
So, what exactly does protector do? Well, it's like an invisible shield that bonds with your fibers on a molecular level. Even the most seasoned weavers can't tell the difference between protected and non-protected fibers. Pretty neat, huh?
Now, here's where it gets crucial: spills happen, and some can leave lasting marks on your precious rugs. Without protector, that glass of red wine or pet accident could mean permanent damage, requiring costly re-dyeing. But with protector in place, you've got a buffer. It buys you time – precious moments to tackle the spill before it becomes a stain.
And speaking of spills, let's talk about pet accidents. Pet urine is particularly aggressive and can penetrate fibers in a flash. That's why prompt action is essential. The rule of thumb? Get to the spot within half an hour, especially if you've got protector on your side.
But that's not all. Protector also makes routine maintenance a breeze. It repels dry dirt and dust, making vacuuming a cinch.
If you're considering protector for your freshly cleaned area rugs or carpets, we're here to help! Let's chat about how we can keep your textiles looking and feeling their best.

Rugs and Bugs!
It all begins with an idea.
Good afternoon and Happy Friday! Let's dive into the world of bugs and rugs. When it comes to owning natural fiber rugs, it's crucial to be aware of moth infestation risks, particularly with wool rugs. Moths thrive in dark, undisturbed areas, such as beneath furniture placed on top of rugs. Regular vacuuming and occasional flipping of rug corners are essential preventive measures. Utilizing high-quality rug pads can further deter moth breeding by eliminating air pockets they favor. While some moth eggs are microscopic and invisible, they hatch under favorable conditions. Despite thorough vacuuming, complete eradication is challenging, underscoring the importance of regular washing. Storing rugs often creates ideal conditions for moth proliferation, making washing and applying repellents imperative. At Classic Care, our wool rug cleaning service includes applying a long-lasting repellent, safeguarding your rug until its next wash. Remember, consistent vacuuming and washing are key to preserving your rug's integrity.

Area Rug Care
It all begins with an idea.
Good morning! Let's dive into the world of area rug care and highlight some common mistakes to avoid. First up, dust and dirt. Just like any other surface, rugs accumulate dust and dirt, especially in high-traffic areas. Regular vacuuming is crucial to prevent dirt from settling deep into the rug's foundation. Neglecting this can lead to fiber damage, necessitating professional washing to thoroughly remove embedded dirt. Unlike surface cleaning with a regular carpet wand, professional washing targets the rug's foundation, preserving its integrity. Our top tip? Vacuum regularly and occasionally flip the rug to vacuum the back, where hidden dirt lurks. Depending on usage, aim for professional washing every 1-3 years. For instance, entrance or well used family room, dining room or living room rugs may require yearly cleaning due to heavy foot traffic. Speaking from almost two decades of experience, I've encountered firsthand the consequences of inadequate cleaning methods, like attempting to clean an entrance rug on-site with a carpet wand, only to turn it into a muddy mess. That's one of the many reasons why we opt for professional cleaning in our shop, ensuring thorough and safe results.

Lets talk white dots on handwoven rugs.
It all begins with an idea.
Good Morning!
Let's talk white knots on handwoven wool rugs. Did you know that these little quirks are present in every handwoven rug, whether they're immediately visible or not?
Even if your area rug boasts "100% wool," chances are its foundation is made of cotton. Those white knots? They're a result of the weaving process. When weavers run out of cotton on the spool or if it breaks, they tie knots to keep the foundation going.
Sometimes, these knots aren't immediately noticeable for various reasons. They might be inked to blend with the rug's colors, become dulled by dirt or they start appearing as the fibers wear down. So, if you notice them after a clean, don't fret—it's just revealing the rug's true character. Note that these knots are for the most part white but it is possible that they could be a different color.
Remember, these knots aren't flaws but rather a natural part of the weaving process. They add a unique charm to your area rugs, showcasing their handmade quality. Embrace the character! #ArearugcleaningNanaimo #ArearugcleaningLadysmith #ArearugcleaningParksville #ArearugcleaningQualicumbeach #ArearugcleaningNanooseBay Picture: Notice the white foundation showing where it is worn and the white dots where it is not worn.
